I like to believe that everyone is creative in some way. We all have different ways of being creative whether it be in hobbies, in our work, in visual arts, sciences, literature, etc. Everyone has ideas and ways to execute them. We just don’t all make it our career to be creative. Working in animation, a lot of my creative energy went towards work. It can be really fun but it also has the chance of leaving you creatively spent for your own endeavours. While I’ve been looking for work, the drive to be creative is still there. I still want to draw things and I have been! For myself and for others. It has been nice to use my art for good. Art for good. Your personal art can be for whoever you want it to be, benefiting you and people you care about. I was happy to lend some of my skills to dance, once again. (If you haven’t been keeping up, my daughter’s dance life has taken over and I ain’t mad about it.) The studio owner at Exceleration Studios, lovingly known to all of us as Mrs. Laurie, asked me to make a few special pieces for her this year. I was able to help her pay tribute to a dancer who made a big impact in many people’s lives, but especially at Exceleration. You can read more about Robert Wells and dance fund in his honor here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/robert-wells-dance-fund And you can see Exceleration’s tribute to him here: https://www.facebook.com/ExcelerationStudiosInc/posts/pfbid0Q7NhuKjcTdfQBaWUgPcS1JuJBEkk6GeWBbax6PT5PRUtEpio1m5smBBLweyvF4ABl (and on their instagram!) Now that you are back after learning more about him, here is the special piece I made in tribute to Robert. I busted out the old watercolors to make it special for Mrs. Laurie! The dancers this year continued the circus tradition, so I was also recruited to create posters with each kid in their role. You can see those below. (BONUS points if you can spot my daughter XD) My process is pretty loose and since this is a blog, let’s show you all what those look like too. Here are all the initial sketches before cleaning and applying color. It was nice to use my art for good, for people I care about.
